David J. "Speedy" Fortin, a former resident of Deerfield, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home in Puyallup, Wash., after a long battle with cancer.

David J. "Speedy" Fortin, a former resident of Deerfield, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home in Puyallup, Wash., after a long battle with cancer.

He was born June 24, 1954, in Pampa, Texas, to Joseph and Vernell Fortin. He graduated from high school in Pampa in 1972.

On Sept. 3, 1982, he married Sherri Grimsley.

Mr. Fortin worked for Valley Freightliner in Pacific, Wash., before his illness.

Survivors include his children, Drew Grimsley of Amarillo, Texas, Dusty Fortin of Sanford, N.C., and Kristy Workman of Bonney Lake, Wash.; six grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A remembrance dinner and time to share will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Frontier Park Lodge, 21800 Meridian Ave. E., Graham, Wash.
