The 7th annual Garden City Polar Plunge benefitting Special Olympics Kansas is scheduled for Feb. 23 at Parrot Cove Water Park, 990 Stone Creek Drive.
The event is expected to feature dozens of participants jumping into the frigid waters of Parrot Cove to raise money for Special Olympics athletes.
The event also will feature a Polar Strut, Polar Party, and a costume contest with the theme “All Characters Welcome.” The Polar Strut has three options: 10 laps in the indoor lazy river; a one-mile outdoor fun run with the last 0.1 miles indoor; or a 5K outdoor fun run with last 0.1 miles indoor. The Polar Party is included until 1 p.m. After 1 p.m. it has a cost of $10 on the day of, payable to Parrot Cove, and allows participants to utilize the water park until it closes.
Registration for the Plunge will open at 9 a.m., with the Strut starting at 10 a.m., the party beginning at 11 a.m., opening ceremonies and awards at 11:30 a.m. and the Plunge at noon.
The Plunge invites participants of all ages (under 18 requires parent or guardian signature) to take a dip in the icy waters. Participants can take the plunge on their own with a minimum fundraising goal of $75 or join a group of friends and form a Plunge Team. The Strut has a minimum $30 entry.
