Kalmali, a 7-year-old snow leopard at Lee Richardson Zoo, was euthanized Tuesday morning due to renal failure, following two years of veterinary care for the condition.
According to a press release from the zoo, the leopard's health recently had deteriorated to the point that it deeply affected his quality of life. The median life expectancy for snow leopards is 15 years, according to the zoo.
Kalmali arrived in Garden City in 2013.
The zoo will work with the Snow Leopard Species Survival Plan to identify another leopard to bring to Garden City.
