Two Holcomb students are southwest Kansas division winners in the 2018 Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest, which is part of a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce traffic deaths.

Emmaline Luna, 7, and Mia Montes, 10, of Holcomb and Edgar Morales, 13, of Liberal were named winners in their age divisions for the contest. Each student received a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas at presentations at their schools, according to a press release from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The contest featured 836 students ages 5 to 13 from across the state participating.
