Back when fall football meant Charlie Brown and Lucy, Lucy always jerked the football away!

Charlie was left flat on his posterior, pondering why he’d trusted her again.

This election, voting Republicans could be the new Charlie Browns.

Kansas is plucking itself from Brownbackian depths of despair, yet everyone may fall for it again.

Lucy-ferian Republican candidates, with rare exceptions, simply refuse to debate.

Consider Salina’s League of Women Voters forum for first district congressman, attorney general, and secretary of state. Every single Democrat agreed to show up. Not one Republican did so and only one even bothered to respond.

Rep. Roger Marshall didn’t show up in person, in-studio, and in-district for his-home-office Salina’s radio debate. Democrat Alan LaPolice showed up and showed him up.

Republican candidates don’t respect you. They think they hold the football.

But it’s your voice, your vote, your football.

What’s at stake here is not peanuts.
