Garden City police on Monday arrested a 37-year-old woman they say resisted arrest and attempted to steal a police vehicle.

At 7:39 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of North Third Street, where they had received reports of a woman lying in the street.

Officers found Andrea Diaz, 405 Magnolia St., acting erratic, and she ignored verbal commands from the officers. According to police, Diaz walked toward the officer's patrol vehicle and tried to enter it in the driver’s side area while making comments that she was going to take the vehicle. Officers stopped Diaz from stealing the vehicle, and say she resisted arrest, causing a minor injury to one of the officers. She was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Diaz was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on allegations of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer, attempted theft, battery of a law enforcement officer and criminal trespass.
