A vigil in Lakin and an informational event at Garden City Community College will usher in World Suicide Prevention Day Monday.
The GCCC event will include daytime activities from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the campus’ quad, including informational resources from Compass Behavioral Health and college counselors, temporary tattoos from the GCCC art club, and signs and displays expressing positivity and how suicide affects Kansas. At 6:30 p.m. in the quad, speakers will share personal experiences with suicides and those lost to it.
In Lakin, a vigil in honor of lives lost to suicide will be held at 7 p.m. on the front lawn of Kearny County Hospital. At 7:30 p.m., visitors will light candles and join in prayer with Pastor Hannah Richmeier from Cornerstone Church.
All events are open to the public.
