An all-day Garden City event to include music, family games and activities, a live auction and rummage sale, is planned to help raise money for a handicap accessible vehicle for Bennie Robbins, a local man who suffers from muscular dystrophy and diabetes.
The event, the Big Ben Benefit, will feature numerous activities from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Garden City, 1005 N. 11th St., including a live action, raffle, rummage sale, bake sale, concessions stand, bounce house, relay races, car show, lawn games, massages, a live DJ and demonstrations from Lee Richardson Zoo, Finney County Animal Shelter and Garden City police and fire departments.
Money raised will go toward a roughly $6,000 project to equip a VW Beetle with handicap-accessible features so that Robbins, who has been confined to a wheelchair for three years, may have more mobility and independence.
Donations can be dropped off with Robbins by Friday or made online at www.gofundme.com/handicapable-vehicle-for-big-ben. Those interested can call Robbins at (620) 521-7293 to schedule a date and time for the drop off.
