A 33-year-old woman and 9-year-old boy, both of Garden City, were injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 83 about 10 miles south of the south U.S. 50/83 junction.

A 2010 Ford Expedition driven by Salvador Apodaca, 65, of Sublette, and a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Linda Gossman of Garden City were both southbound on U.S. 83 near Parallel Road in rural Finney County at about 3:52 p.m. According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Gossman was preparing to turn east onto Parallel Road and was waiting for traffic to clear, when Apodaca attempted to pass her and struck her vehicle.

Both Gossman and her passenger, 9-year-old Cooper Gossman, were taken to St. Catherine Hospital with injuries. According to the KHP, they were both wearing seat belts. Apodaca, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured.
