Four Garden City High School drama students were awarded scholarships and honors at the William Inge Festival, a four-day theater conference and workshop dedicated to a prestigious playwright held May 9 through 12 at Independence Community College.

GCHS students spent the weekend watching new plays read and performed by professional actors, participating in professional workshops, and hearing analysis and critiques from judges.

The festival grants scholarships to high school juniors and seniors. GCHS senior Carolyn Levi won best playwright and a $400 scholarship, senior AJ Ramirez won runner-up actress and a $125 scholarship, senior Javier Cervantes won honorable mention playwright and a $100 scholarship and junior Tam Nguyen won honorable mention actress and a $100 scholarship.

GCHS junior Delaney DeSpain, sophomore Nathan Ayala, sophomore Giselle Martinez, sophomore Johb Silva, sophomore Gavin Stimatze and freshman Maddie Stout also were honored by the festival’s judges.
