Two Garden City men, including one with an active municipal warrant for his arrest, were arrested Tuesday night after police say they failed to comply with an officer’s traffic stop, causing a vehicle pursuit.
At about 6:23 p.m. Tuesday, a Garden City police officer patrolling the 300 block of East Bellevue Avenue spotted a silver Dodge Stratus driving northbound on Third Street. The driver, Marco Rodriguez, 19, had a warrant for his arrest and was not wearing his seat belt, according to police.
The officer attempted to pull Rodriguez’s vehicle over at Third Street and Long Boulevard, but Rodriguez refused to stop. After a vehicle pursuit, Rodriguez’s vehicle struck a curb at Windmill Drive and Harvest Lane, damaging the car. His vehicle and the chase came to a halt at Windy View Drive and Pearly Jane Avenue.
Both Rodriguez and his passenger, Brandon Elad, 20, were arrested without incident, though Elad was carrying a handgun when arrested. Officers found suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Rodriguez and Elad were lodged in the Finney County Jail on allegations of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Elad also was jailed on an allegation of criminal carrying of a weapon, and Rodriguez also was arrested on allegations of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding an officer, leaving the scene of an accident, interfering with an officer and multiple traffic violations.
