A number of area communities are planning Memorial Day services, including the annual ceremony planned at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

The local Memorial Day service is scheduled for 11 a.m Monday at Valley View Cemetery, 2901 N. Third St.

The event is hosted by both the Harry H. Renick American Legion Post 9 and The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Garden City. The service will include guest speaker, veteran Leonard Hitz, music by the Garden City Municipal Band, a 21-gun salute and more.

Following the service, there will be a hamburger feed at the American Legion building, 405 S. Main St., at about noon. At about 1 p.m., there will be a bench dedication for the late Robert Becker, who was killed in a motorcycle accident in October 2017.

Other Memorial Day services in the area on Monday include:

• In Kearny County, there will be Memorial Day Services at the Deerfield Cemetery and the Lakin Cemetery. Services at the Deerfield cemetery will begin at 9 a.m., followed with the Lakin Cemetery service at 9:45 a.m. Both services will be conducted by members of Kearny County’s American Legion post and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

• In Greeley County, there will be a service at 10 a.m. MT at the Greeley County cemetery hosted by the county’s VFW post. Following the ceremony, there will be a lunch served by the VFW. The events are open to the public.

• Scott County will host a Memorial Day service at the Scott County Cemetery at 11 a.m.

• In Hamilton County, there will be services at 9 a.m. MT in Coolidge and at 10 a.m. MT at the Syracuse Cemetery.

• In Grant County, a Memorial Day service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Ulysses Cemetery.
