Kansas’ K-12 district-certified teachers that integrate agriculture into their non-vocational curriculums can now submit applications for two statewide awards.

The Kansas Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom is accepting applications for the 2019 Janet Sims Memorial Teacher of the Year award and the Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture Regional Excellence in Teaching award. All applications are due June 30.

The foundation will evaluate applicants on creativity, utilization of agricultural information, interdisciplinary approach, advancement of educational standards and student impact.

The Teacher of the Year will receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Agriculture in the Classroom convention in June 2019 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Regional Excellence in Teacher award winners will choose a $600 scholarship to attend the convention or a $200 cash prize to use for classroom supplies.

Those interested can download applications at www.ksagclassroom.org by clicking on “Teachers,” then “Teacher of the Year.” For more information, visit the foundation’s website or call (785) 320-4350.
