Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Joshua Svaty will announce his running mate in an 11-stop tour Wednesday and Thursday that will include a visit to Hutchinson.

The candidates are slated to be at an event at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Airport Steak House at the Hutchinson Regional Airport, 1100 Airport Road. It is open to the public.

Svaty, from Ellsworth County, is a former state legislator and former Kansas Secretary of Agriculture. The candidate filing deadline is noon June 1, and candidates running in the August primary for governor must have their lieutenant governor running mate chosen before filing so that both names can appear on the ballot.

Svaty’s announcement tour will start at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the Old Supreme Court Chambers in the Statehouse. The tour will proceed to Lawrence, Kansas City, Overland Park, and Pittsburg before the candidates arrive in Hutchinson.

On Thursday, May 17, the tour will continue with a morning stop in Wichita followed by an 11:45 a.m. stop at the Hampton Inn in Garden City.

The candidates will fly to Colby and then Salina, finally wrapping up the day with a Thursday night campaign stop in Manhattan.
