Garden City High School band, choir and orchestra students participated in the Kansas High School Activities Association State 6A Solo and Ensemble Contest on April 28 in Topeka.

Ten band students participated in the competition. Euphonium player Colten May earned the highest “I” rating. The following students earned a “II” rating: Caleb Tewell, horn; Shelby Irsik, clarinet; Oscar Hernandez, tenor saxophone; Orion Craig, trombone; Brenan Hoke, flute; Jessica Pammenter, flute; Jesus Alvarado, flute; Marilu Rodriguez-Melendez, flute and Veronica Martinez, flute.

Five choir students competed in the solo contest. Jhamel Transfiguracion received a “I” rating and Kim Loya, Elena Lopez, and Andy Oyler received Excellent ‘II’ rating. Jescie Bribiesca received a “III” rating.

Eight orchestra students played at the competition. The following soloists earned a “I” rating: Oswaldo Mezquita, cello; Kyler Bennett, cello; Jayson Resendiz, bass; Rayenah Bergstrom, viola; Jade Valdez, violin; Lucas Torres-Ruiz, violin; and Emily Arrieta, violin. Tia Dunsworth received a “II” rating for her bass solo.
