First Friday

What: Garden City Downtown Vision's monthly First Friday and Food Truck Fridays, where various food truck vendors will be lined up near Stevens Park. There will also be various art on display at stops throughout downtown Garden City.

When: Food trucks will be parked on Hero’s Way near Stevens Park from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday. Artwalk stops include 5 to 7 p.m. at Patrick Dugan’s Coffee Shop, 301 N. Main St., and 6 to 8 p.m. at Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main St.

GCCC commencement

What: Garden City Community College’s 98th commencement. Seating is on a first come/first served basis. Overflow seating will be available in the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Auditorium, where commencement activities may be observed via video. Guest speaker for the ceremony will be Dr. Blake Flanders, president and CEO for the Kansas Board of Regents. Distinguished guest will be Mr. Cecil O’Brate.

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Where: Conestoga Arena in the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex on GCCC’s campus


Harvest Flea Market

What: Official opening of the Harvest Flea Market, a farmers market and flea market experience with 300 spaces for vendors offering food, furniture, artwork and more.

When: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The flea market dates run May through October.

Where: The west end of the Finney County Fairgrounds parking lot.

Cost: Entry fee is $1.  


Cinco Que Mayo race

What: Cinco Que Mayo 5K race. Each participant will receive a tri-blend T-shirt, all finishers receive a custom finisher’s medal, and all race registrants will receive a voucher for a free margarita, beer or appetizer item to be redeemed Saturday through Monday at Las Margaritas Restaurant. Las Margaritas will serve chips, salsa and appetizers at the finish line and also will host an after-party

When: Race begins at 5:05 p.m. Saturday

Where: Las Margaritas, 301 N. Main St.

Cost: Register at in advance or on race day in person starting 90 minutes before the race. Cost is $35.

Keeper of the Flame banquet

What: The Garden City Fire Department Honor Guard will honor Theresa Maddox, of Finney County EMS, with this year's Keeper of the Flame award. All proceeds will go to the Honor Guard, and will enable the organization to attend training, purchase and maintain equipment, and cover travel expenses to memorials throughout the state and to Emmitsburg, Maryland, for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

When: 6 p.m. Saturday

Where: Clarion Inn, 1911 E. Kansas Ave.

Tickets: $60 person, and can be purchased from any member of the GCFD Honor Guard or by calling the Garden City Central Fire Station at (620) 276-1140.


Car Show

What: A Kansas Kruisers Car Show, which will include various classic cars.

When: 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday

Where: Samy’s Spirits and Steakhouse, 1911 Kansas Ave.


Cinco De Mayo celebration

What: El Remedio Market’s annual Cinco De Mayo celebration of the observance of the Mexican Militia’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The event includes live music, folkloric dancers, games, contests and plenty of Mexican food and treats in the El Remedio parking lot.

When: 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday
