Garden City Public Schools will hold its 2018-19 enrollment for kindergarten through sixth grade from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Students must enroll at their neighborhood school, according to school boundaries, even if the child has attended another school. Students new to the district must enroll at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St.

Students enrolling on or before Thursday will have priority for space over students who enroll afterward. There will be no school for kindergarteners on Thursday due to enrollment.

Students enrolling for the first time must bring their immunization record, birth certificate, parent’s photo ID and proof of address. The district’s immunization policy follows the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s requirements for school entry. Those with questions should contact their school nurse.

Children who will be 5 on or before Aug. 31 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year. Parents need to bring their incoming kindergarten student with them to the enrollment process so the student may participate in an hour-long screening that will help determine their academic growth. Parents will receive information on academic expectations from the kindergarten teachers and information on how to help their child’s learning development at home.

Textbook rentals are $25 for kindergarten, first and second grade students, $30 for third and fourth grade students and $32 for fifth and sixth grade students. Upper level technology fees will be $15 for fourth grade students and $30 for fifth grade students.

If parents need more information, they can contact their child’s school.
