Enrollment for the 2018-19 school year’s early learning for 4-year-olds, or ELF, program will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Garfield Early Childhood Center, 121 W Walnut. There will be no school at the center on Thursday due to enrollment.
To be eligible for the ELF program, children must be 4 before Aug. 31 and must meet one or more of the at-risk criteria: if he or she qualifies for free lunches, comes from a single-parent household, obtains a referral from the Department for Children and Families, has parents lacking a high school diploma or GED, was born to teen parents, is developmentally or academically delayed based on assessments, is non-English speaking or qualifies for the migrant program.
Children must have an approved application for the ELF program on file in order to enroll. Applications can be picked up at the school prior to enrollment.
On the day of enrollment, eligible children must bring their birth certificate, immunization record, parent’s photo ID and proof of address. The fee for the year is $21 and is payable at Garfield. For more information, contact the school at (620) 805-7500.
