A Colorado man was sentenced Thursday in Scott County District Court to life in prison after being convicted of multiple Jessica’s Law charges for sex crimes against a person younger than 14.

According to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s office, 25th Judicial District Chief Judge Wendel Wurst sentenced Jose Armando Contreras, 40, of Pueblo West, Colo., to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 25 years.

Last month, a Scott County jury found Contreras guilty on two counts of rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of aggravated intimidation of a victim.

The rape and aggravated criminal sodomy charges fall under Jessica’s Law because the victim was younger than 14.

The crimes were committed between March 2012 and February 2013. The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Scott City Police Department.
