The Garden City Community College Student Government Association will hold a riverbed cleanup from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 21 at the Arkansas River to recognize Earth Day. The event is open to all members of the community.

Volunteers will meet at Cleaver Field in Finnup Park at 10 a.m., where they will receive a packet and their cleanup zone assignment. Food, drinks and supplies will be provided, but those wishing to participate should wear closed-toes shoes and work gloves.

The association collaborated with the City of Garden City to organize drop-off zones for various items removed from the water. The city will help volunteers categorize tires, trash, metal and other items in order to simplify the trash removal and disposal process down the line.

Interested volunteers should contact Berenice Ayala at (620) 492-5730. Those who want to help but cannot attend can drop off donated leather gloves, heavy duty trash bags and water with Lauren Rockhold, coordinator of student activities, in the basement of the Beth Tedrow Student Center through April 19.
