ELLSWORTH -- A Garden City woman and child were taken to Ellsworth County Medical Center for injuries suffered when the sport utility vehicle they were in struck the rear of a stopped vehicle on Kansas Highway 156 at the intersection with Kansas Highway 140 about 3:35 p.m. Friday, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.
Eva A. Alverez, 56, of Garden City, was driving a Jeep Liberty when she failed to stop and her vehicle struck the rear of a stopped Ford Ranger driven by Justin D. Soukup, 25, of Wilson, according to the report.
Alverez and a passenger, Herlinda A. Bautista, 3, of Garden City, were taken to the hospital. A nursing supervisor said they were being evaluated in the emergency department about 5:30 p.m. Two other passengers — Nevia Alverez, 6, and Aiden R. Gomez, 9, both of Garden City, were listed on the report as not being injured. Soukup also was listed as not injured.
According to the report, everyone in both vehicles was properly restrained.
