WICHITA — The Wichita Thunder closed out four-game home stand with a 4-1 win over the Quad City Mallards Wednesday in ECHL play at INTRUST Bank Arena.

Quad City scored first on a goal by Matt Pohlkamp on a power play from Willie Raskob and Nick Bligh.

Wichita goaltender Nick Riopel held the Mallards scoreless the remaining 53:38, finishing the game with 28 saves against 29 shots.

Ryan Van Stralen had two goals for the Thunder. Ralph Cuddemi scored a goal with an assist. Kevin Dufour also scored a goal. Mark MacMillan and Jeremy Beaudry each had two assists.

Eric Hartzell stopped 38 of Wichita’s 42 shots in goal for Quad City.

The Mallards fall to 20-35-3-1. Wichita improves to 31-23-4-2. With 12 games remaining, Wichita is 12 points (six games) out of first place in the Mountain Division. Wichita is five points behind Idaho for fourth place in the Western Conference. The two division winners and next two teams host first-round playoff series.

Wichita plays its next eight games on the road beginning with a pair of games 7:05 p.m. Saturday and S4:05 p.m. Sunday at Tulsa.

Wichita doesn’t return home until March 30 against Tulsa.
