A Garden City teen was arrested Thursday on allegations of DUI and drug possession after driving into a utility pole on Kansas Avenue after passing out from alleged inhalant use.

Julian Sanchez, 17, 4170 E. U.S. Highway 50, drove his blue 2003 Ford Mustang into a utility pole in the 1900 block of Kansas Avenue at about 12:21 p.m. Thursday. According to Garden City police, officers found Sanchez alert and conscious with minor injuries and he refused medical treatment.

Police said Sanchez was westbound on Kansas Avenue when he allegedly passed out from consuming inhalants, crossing the through eastbound lanes of traffic and striking the utility pole.

A search of the vehicle revealed inhalants, drug paraphernalia and marijuana, according to police.

Sanchez was arrested and later released to his parents. He could face possible charges of driving without proof of insurance, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The city responded to replace the utility pole, and the car was towed from the scene.
