Coffee with Caregivers

What: Hosted by the Leave A Legacy Foundation, this is a support group for those caring with loved ones with cancer. This is a place where you can come for support, share experiences, ask questions and be with others who share the same concerns.

When: 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday

Where: Patrick Dugan’s Coffee House, 301 N. Main St.

 

'Peter and the Star-Catcher'

What: The Garden City High School drama department will present “Peter and the Star-Catcher," a family-friendly production that upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, “Peter and the Starcatcher” explores the depths of greed and despair... and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

When: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, along with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Where: GCHS auditorium, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

Legislative Coffee

What: The Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Coffee series features area state lawmakers, who provide details about what’s happening in Topeka during the legislative session, followed by a question-and-answer session allowing the public to ask questions. The event is free to the public, and breakfast will be provided by St. Catherine Hospital.

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: St. Catherine Hospital, 401 E. Spruce St., in Classroom B in the lower level of the facility. Follow the stairs down to the lower level from the cafeteria. Attendees can park in the west parking lot and enter through the west doors. An elevator is also available.

GCCC basketball court dedication

What: The Garden City Community College Athletic Department will hold dedication ceremonies for Conestoga Arena and Ron Schwartz Court during the home basketball games vs. Coffeyville Community College.This will be an official dedication of the new floor and gym improvements made possible by the donation of Conestoga Energy Partners, LLC. The new gym floor is being dedicated in honor of longtime GCCC Board of Trustee member Ron Schwartz, who died of cancer in April 2016.

When: The women's game tips off at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m., with the dedication taking place sometime during the games on Saturday.

Where: Conestoga Arena at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex at GCCC.

 

Beef Empire Days fundraiser

What: The Beef Empire Days Rodent Racin’ Ball & Auction Fundraiser will feature a live DJ, beef kabobs, shrimp boil, a live auction and cash bar, plus contemporary western artist Bradley Chance of Hays will be painting live.

When: A social hour will start at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday

Where: Clarion Inn, 1911 E. Kansas Ave.
