A teenage boy from Mexico was killed in an auto accident in Haskell County on Tuesday night after the vehicle he was a passenger in rolled over multiple times.
At around 10:14 p.m. near milepost 46 of U.S. Highway 83, about 11 miles north of Sublette, Luis Rene Guitierrez-Loera, 49, lost control of his 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup as a result of inclement weather. The vehicle skidded on its side and became trapped in dirt before rolling over an unknown number of times, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
When the vehicle came to rest on its wheels in a ditch on the east side of the road, 13-year-old Cristian Rene Guiterrez-Portillo, a passenger, was critically injured and died shortly after midnight during transport to St. Catherine Hospital.
Rene was also injured in the accident and transported to Satanta Hospital. Another passenger, 17-year-old Allen Alexander Guiterrez-Portillo, was uninjured.
All three were from the Chihuahua region of Mexico.
