Toy drive

What: As part of Garden City Community College’s annual toy drive, a Burtis Motors Ford pickup will be parked at the John Collins Vocational Building parking lot on Thursday and anyone can drop off a toy to fill up the truck. New, unwrapped toys will be accepted and donated to the Salvation Army to help local children. Toys also will be collected by GCCC ag students at the GCCC home basketball games on Saturday vs. Hutchinson Community College. The Broncbuster women tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game. For anyone unable to make it to these events, toy receptacles are available at various locations on the GCCC campus.

GCCC Christmas band concert

What: Garden City Community College’s band concert.

When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday

First Friday

What: The Garden City Downtown Vision’s final First Friday event of the year. Children can write a letter to Santa Claus at Brown's Shoe Fit, then get their letter stamped at Coleen's Trophies, Awards & Gifts, then deliver the letter in Santa's mailbox at The Corner on Main, where they can enjoy a S'more-making station. Photo opportunities with Santa will be available at Elements Boutique. Patrick Dugan's Coffee House with be hosting a game night and an Ugly Sweater Contest, with prizes for the top two winners. Garden City Arts will host an opening reception for the Annual Member Showcase and guests can paint a clay ornament to take home.

Christmas concert and dinner

What: Alta Brown Elementary School’s annual Family Christmas Dinner and Christmas Program will include an enchilada, rice, beans, egg roll, dessert and drink for dinner. Student artwork will be on display during the evening.

When: 5:30 p.m. Friday. The kindergarten and first-grade program will begin at 6:15 p.m., with the second-, third- and fourth-grade program starting at 7 p.m.

Where: Gymnasium at the school, 1110 E. Pine St.

Cost: $5 for adults; $3 for children 12 and younger.

 

Craft fair

What: Labor of Love Christmas craft fair will include vendors, a silent auction, a kids craft room, and a soup lunch.

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: First United Methodist Church, 1106 Main St.

 

Arts class

What: Local artist Pam Powers will be teaching participants the basics on chalk painting. Participants will paint, distress and wax 5x7 picture frames that they can take home at the end of class. All supplies will be provided.

When: 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday

Where: Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main St.

Christmas Fun Day

What: The Senior Center of Finney County's Christmas Family Fun Day, which will include games, meeting Santa, a holiday raffle, and a hot chocolate bar.

When: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday

Santa at VFW

What: Santa Claus will be at the VFW in Garden City this weekend to visit with children and hear about their Christmas wishes.

When: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday

Where: VFW, 1101 W. Mary St.

 

GCCC Christmas concert

What: Garden City Community College’s Vespers concert, with performances from GCCC Concert Choir, College Singers, Garden City First United Methodist Church and Community Chorus. Combined Choirs and Instrumentalists will present “Fantasia Noel,” arranged and orchestrated by Joshua Spacht.
