Special Events

TODAY, NOV. 19

Piano recital: The Piano Teacher’s League of Garden City will present a student recital at 2 p.m. Sunday at Horace Good Middle School. Students of Tamara Bunney, Garden City, and Connie Loewen, Montezuma, will be performing. The public is welcome to attend.

TUESDAY, NOV. 21

Evening at the Museum: The November Evening at the Museum presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the Finney County Historical Museum, with a joint pre-holiday program by Conny Bogaard, Ph.D., and Debra Bolton, Ph.D. The program, titled “Las Cantigas de Santa Maria,” focuses in part on King Alfonso X of Spain. The Christian ruler led a tolerant society and royal court where Muslim, Jewish and Christian people coexisted in harmony. Known as “El Sabio,” the medieval leader ruled by drawing on his faith and the teachings of the Virgin Mary. The presenters believe present-day Finney County, known for its own cultural diversity, reflects many of the same concepts.
