Jesus “Jesse” Aguilera, a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, will serve as Parade Marshall at the American Legion-staged Veterans Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 in downtown Garden City.
Cpl. Aguilera served in the Pacific Theater of Operation with the 2nd Marine Division, taking part in several campaigns that attacked Japanese forces in their strongholds on islands across the Pacific to include Saipan and Okinawa.
Businesses, community organizations and schools are invited to have vehicle or marching entries in the parade. The route will start on South Main Street, near American Legion Post 9 at 405 S. Main St., and move north on Main to Walnut Street.
A ceremony and community hamburger feed will follow at the Post Home at about 11:15 a.m. The Garden City Fire Department will conduct a fireworks display at 6:30 p.m. at the Finney County Fairgrounds parking lot.
