A preliminary hearing that had been continued to Monday for a man arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Scott County man has been postponed again.

Rene Inguanza, 50, 3312 W. Road 170 in Scott County, was arrested in September in connection with the fatal shooting of Darryn Rodenberg, 44, 11301 E. Road 200 in Scott County. Inguanza faces charges of first-degree murder and battery.

According to the clerk’s office of the Scott County Courthouse, Inguanza’s defense attorney, Ben Jackson of Scott City, determined he could not make the Nov. 6 date that had been scheduled in early October. A continuance hearing on Thursday will determine the new date of the preliminary hearing, when Inguanza will appear in court before 25th Judicial District Chief Judge Wendel Wurst.

Inguanza is being held in Scott County jail on a $500,000 bond.

According to Scott County Sheriff Glenn Anderson, Inguanza confronted Rodenberg at Rodenberg’s residence on the night of Sept. 22. Anderson said his office’s investigation revealed that Inguanza was reportedly angry and accused Rodenberg of selling drugs to his son, and in the midst of the confrontation, Inguanza allegedly shot Rodenberg and killed him.

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the date of the incident, which occurred on Sept. 22.
