SCOTT CITY — A preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for Wednesday for a man arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Scott County man has been continued to November.

Rene Inguanza, 50, 3312 W. Road 170 in Scott County, was arrested in September in connection with the fatal shooting of Darryn Rodenberg, 44, 11301 E. Road 200 in Scott County. Inguanza faces charges of first-degree murder and battery.

Inguanza appeared in court Wednesday alongside his defense attorney, Ben Jackson of Scott City, for a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Judge Ed Frock. Jackson motioned for a continuance, and Frock granted the request and scheduled the hearing for Nov. 6, when Inguanza will appear in court before 25th District Court Judge Wendel Wurst.

Inguanza is being held in Scott County jail $500,000 bond.

According to Scott County Sheriff Glenn Anderson, Inguanza confronted Rodenberg at Rodenberg’s residence on the night of Sept. 29. Anderson said his office’s investigation revealed that Inguanza was reportedly angry and accused Rodenberg of selling drugs to his son, and in the midst of the confrontation, Inguanza allegedly shot Rodenberg and killed him.
