Food Truck Fridays

What: The Garden City Downtown Vision’s final Food Truck Friday of the year. Various food truck vendors will be lined up south of Stevens Park for a “Pink Out” event.

In support of The Breast Center at St. Catherine Hospital, everyone is invited to relax with an ice cold beer in the Stevens Park Beer Garden from 5 to 8:30 p.m. All tips and event donations will benefit The Breast Center and the services they provide to the citizens of Southwest Kansas.

From 5 to 7:30 pm, kids ages 0 to 12 can join in on the second annual Stevens Park Pumpkin Painting Contest sponsored by the Western Motor Company, Garden City Arts, and Wheatland Broadband.

For $1, kids can grab their pumpkin and paint and supplies will be provided for decoration. Prizes will be awarded to the top three pumpkins in age groups from 0-4, 5-8, and 9-12. There are 200 pumpkins to hand out and will be sold on a first-come first-serve basis.

When: 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with the beer garden running from, 5 to 8:30 p.m. and the pumpkin painting contest running from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday

Meet the candidates

What: A candidate meet and greet with the candidates seeking election to the Garden City Commission, Holcomb City Council, USD 457 School Board of Education and the Garden City Community College Board of Trustees.

The Greater Garden City team of Sean Collins and Shannon Dick will conduct candidate interviews during the event broadcasting live on the Greater Garden City Facebook page.

When: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday

10th annual Legacy 10K/Spirit 5K run

What: The 10th Annual Leave A Legacy 10K/5K Run in honor or in memory of loved ones fighting cancer. Cash prize of $500 for top male and female 10K finisher. Pre-registration will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heartland Cancer Center, as well as the morning of the race at the cancer center. Registration fee is $35.

When: Saturday registration is at 7:30 a.m., with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m.

School 50th celebration

What: Jennie Wilson Elementary Schools 50th anniversary celebration. The celebration will include tours of the school, along with information about Jennie Wilson and the history of the school. Refreshments will be provided, along with a photo booth, in the school’s gymnasium. A bouncy house and face painting will be featured outside. There also will be a food truck at the event that will have food available for purchase.

When: 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday

Where: Jennie Wilson Elementary, 1401 Harding Ave.

Historical Society Picnic

What: The Finney County Historical Society’s annual picnic. The Society will provide table service, beverages, and chicken. Guests are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert to share.

Local guitarist, singer and composer Al Miller and his wife, Linda, will be presenting "The Sounds of History". Linda will narrate the history and Al will sing songs from each era of time, from the Spanish explorer Coronado in 1541 to the 21st century.

When: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday

Where: The Finney County Fairgrounds, 209 Lake Ave.

Those wishing to attend do not have to be members to join in on the picnic, though reservations are encouraged. To make reservations, contact the FCHS at (620) 272-3664.
