On Thursday, the Garden City USD 457 Board of Education appointed Renee Scott, assistant superintendent of student services and secondary education, to become the point of contact for child welfare agencies on behalf of the district.

The appointment is part of a policy affirmed on Thursday by the board that would ensure that the district, in accordance with state and federal law, will provide access to public education in a stable educational environment for students placed in foster care within the school district.

For the purposes of the policy, “foster care” means 24-hour substitute care for children placed away from their parents and for whom a child welfare agency has placement and care duties.
