American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is scheduled for Thursday through Sept. 24 at The Garden City Family YMCA, 1224 Center St.

Interested parties must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of class to participate, and must have successfully completed a pre-course session consisting of a swimming skills test.

The training is targeted to those interested in becoming life guards at traditional pools. The course teaches professionalism, patron and facility surveillance, victim recognition, equipment-based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries.

Certification is through the American Red Cross. Class fees are $170 for both members and program participants.

Scholarships are available for financial assistance with program fees.

Participants will meet from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24, at YMCA lap pool. Future sessions are scheduled for Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14.
