A 25-year-old Liberal man died Thursday night in Haskell County after becoming trapped in a grain elevator.
An employee at the Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) facility at 1892 U.S. Highway 83 in Haskell County contacted the Haskell County Sheriff's Office at 3:31 p.m. to report that ADM employee Javier Trejo was trapped in a grain elevator at the facility.
When emergency crews arrived, two other ADM employees were in a grain silo trying to remove Trejo, who was trapped in grain. Efforts to free Trejo were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at 6 p.m.
Additional assistance was requested from the Gray and Grant county fire departments.
According to the Haskell County Sheriff's Office, an autopsy will be performed but no further investigation is anticipated from law enforcement.
