Entertainment programs: To kick-off National Assisted Living Week, a Grandparent's Day cook-out will start at noon, followed by the "Magic's H.O.P.E. Therapeutic Horsemanship Program" at 1 p.m. featuring a mini-horse, pony and two large-breed dogs and then a musical program by "The Mennonite Singers" at 7 p.m. at Homestead Assisted Living, 2414 N. Henderson St. Open to the public at no charge.

“A Wild Affair”: Lee Richardson Zoo’s fundraiser with the theme “Evening in Rio” featuring live music by Mike Bennish and Buckner Creek Band and special appearances by zoo animal ambassadors. The event will include adult beverages, food samples from some of the region’s best restaurants and caterers, and unique items up for bid in the live and silent auctions, all to benefit improvements at the zoo. Tickets are all inclusive and cost $40 per person or $50 each after Labor Day. All tickets must be purchased in advance; guests must be 21 or older to enter. Tickets are available at the zoo, Blue Fox Boutique, Patrick Dugan’s Coffee House, Ward’s Garden Center and at www.folrz.org. The zoo will be closed during regular zoo hours Sept. 9 to prepare for the festivities.
