The final phase of the six-part Kansas Avenue widening project is scheduled to begin Monday.
During the sixth phase, which is tentatively scheduled to last about six weeks, the north two lanes of of Kansas Avenue at the intersection of Seventh street will be closed.
Other restrictions include:
• The north lanes of Kansas Avenue will be closed, and the south will be open with traffic being restricted to two lanes. One lane will carry traffic eastbound, and the other will carry traffic westbound.
• The intersection of Seventh Street and Kansas Avenue will be partially open during the phase; the south half of the intersection will be open.
• No left turns will be available.
• Right-in/Right-out access only.
Also, all points of access will be allowed throughout the project and the alleys.
Widening of Kansas Avenue between Main and Third streets has been under way since March. The widening project is being funded jointly by the City of Garden City and the Kansas Department of Transportation. The total project cost is expected to be $1.18 million.
