A Wichita man was arrested Saturday night in Garden City on an allegation of human trafficking after police say he forced a woman to perform sexual services for profit on his behalf.

Garden City police on Friday received information through internet activity of possible prostitution. Police say their investigation led them to Joe Wimbley, 34, who they say coerced a 31-year-old woman to perform sexual services to earn him money under threat of physical force.

Police say information has been obtained confirming that Wimbley physically abused the woman in the past, and that the woman did have signs of physical abuse at the time of Wimbley’s arrest.

Police contacted Family Crisis Services to assist in the investigation.

Wimbley is being held without bond in the Finney County jail. The woman was released to her family.
