TOPEKA — The executive director of the Kansas Republican Party on Monday joined the staff of Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer in anticipation of Gov. Sam Brownback’s resignation.
Brownback has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as ambassador of religious freedom and is expected to step down when the U.S. Senate completes the confirmation process.
Colyer released a statement on appointment of Clay Barker, the Kansas GOP’s executive director, as a special assistant in the lieutenant governor’s office.
“I’m thrilled to bring his experience and expertise to our team,” Colyer said. “Clay has been a tireless advocate for Reagan conservativism in Kansas, and served his country with distinction in the United States Army.”
Colyer said Kara Fullmer, a former Topeka television reporter, would be press secretary in the lieutenant governor’s office.
