Will Friesen to present concert

Will Friesen, a native of southwest Kansas, will present a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Presbyterian Church, 1719 E. Texas St.

Friesen has lived in Garden City for one year and teaches chemistry at Garden City Community College. He studied organ and piano in addition to chemistry at Tabor College and Bethel College prior to moving to Buffalo, N.Y., for several years of graduate study.

Friesen has been active in church music since he was a child, serving in churches ranging from Mennonite to Episcopal in Kansas, New York and Ontario.

The “God, The Arts And Us” community concert will include organ classics by Bach, Boëllmann and Monticello, as well as modern piano arrangements of well-known sacred music, along with some time to learn a bit about the music and the composers who created it.

In the spirit of the Rev. Denise Pass’ sabbatical, the program will highlight music from a number of locations she is visiting this summer, as well as a couple of Friesen’s personal favorites.

The public is welcome to attend the free concert.
