Finney Flyers 4-H

The Finney Flyers 4-H Club met July 9 at the Finney County 4-H Building, with 13 members, one community leader and seven parents in attendance. Roll call was answered by naming a favorite flower.

May meeting minutes were read and approved. There were no minutes from June as there were not enough members present to conduct business. The treasurer reported the club has $2,070.83. All officers’ reports were approved as read or submitted.

Connie Gross gave the Community Leaders’ report. The club voted to donate $25 for fair awards.

Kynadee Ramsey led the song “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Hannah Goss and Aleah Eatmon gave presentations on the pigs they are showing for fair.

The next club meeting is set for Sunday in the Grandstand Meeting Room at the Finney County Fairgrounds after the Awards Ceremony in the Show Ring.

Senior center cards

John Bunnell won high in the two tables of pitch played Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Bob Baker took second place. Third went to Wayne Scott.

In the two tables of double pinochle played Monday, Bunnell won high, Marlan Wilson was second and Bob Ellis placed third.

Maybelle Bowen won high in the two tables of double pinochle played July 19. Ellis took second place. Third went to Ruth Dunlap.

Duplicate bridge

The Garden City Duplicate Bridge Club had its regular game Sunday playing a 25-board Howell movement. A full three tables played studiously and produced 19 suit games, 10 no-trump games and two slams out of three succeeded. Jon Kempton and Helen Lee were first with a 56 percent game. Donna and Roger Morris were second with a 54 percent game.

The session on July 17 was a “no-trump” night, accounting for 13 of the 21 games while one board saw a no-trump slam made once and failed once. Dorothy Bartlett and Virginia Enslow easily held first place with a 63 percent game. Wen Wurst and Jon Craig were second. 

A small game on Monday eked out all of seven games but three slams succeeded. Mark and Jody Neuman ran away with a 67.5 percent game taking first place. Ron Patrick and Irene Bryant were second, just ahead of a three-way tie for third, fourth and fifth.

Regular games begin at 7 p.m. Monday and 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St., plus sanctioned games begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, with all bridge players welcome. For partners, call Kempton at (620) 276-2876.
