LAKIN — Glenn O. Holmes, 86, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born July 18, 1926, to Robert Frank and Nancy A. Holmes, in Hodgeman County.
He married Betty Lee Whaley on July 30, 1949, in Syracuse. She died on Feb. 16, 1987. He then re-married, to Kathleen Gingerich on July 23, 1988, in Lakin.
Mr. Holmes enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Stoddard D D 566, with the Third Fleet.
A longtime Lakin resident, he worked for K N Energy as a compressor operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; an infant son, Merlin Holmes; three brothers, Roscoe, Frank and Willis Holmes; four sisters, Venita Kessler, Pearl Spoon, Maxine Cogburn and Geneva Faurot.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen; four sons, Alex Holmes of Lakin, Stan Holmes of Wray, Colo., Alvin Holmes of Lakin and Edwin Holmes of Guymon, Okla.; two daughters, Colleen Rexroat of Lakin, Darla Conkle of Katy, Texas; one stepson, Duane Gingerich of Hutchinson; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Powell of St. Petersburg, Fla; one brother, Delmar Holmes of Holly, Colo.; one sister, Louise Hannagan of Lakin; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at Wesleyan Church in Lakin. Burial will take place at Lakin Cemetery in Lakin.
Calling hours are scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.
