Bernice Toews

MONTEZUMA — Bernice Toews, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma.

She was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Chickasha, Okla., to Andrew C. and Minnie Schmidt Koehn.

On Aug. 13, 1950, she married Henry Toews. He died Feb. 16, 2004. She also was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, one grandson and two great-grandsons.

Mrs. Toews had resided at Bethel Home since Aug. 6, 2012.

Survivors include nine children, Ramonda Nikkel of Sedan, N.M., Bonnie Nickel of Lobelville, Tenn., Shirley Nickel of Copeland, Elberta Schmidt, Bonita Dirks, Luella Dirks and Lisa Schmidt, all of Emelle, Ala., Donna Wedel of Bloomfield, Iowa, and Lonnie Toews of Arthur, Ill.; a sister, Irene Smith of Montezuma; 34 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Southern Star Mennonite Church in Geiger, Ala. Burial will follow at Souls Chapel Cemetery in Geiger.

Visitation hours are 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at Bethel Home in Montezuma and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Southern Star Mennonite Church.
