Local schools offer holiday concerts

There will be a number of music concerts scheduled throughout the week at Garden City Public Schools. The free concerts are open to the public.

There will be a number of music concerts scheduled throughout the week at Garden City Public Schools. The free concerts are open to the public.

Jennie Barker Elementary School will present a kindergarten through second grade holiday music program at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the gymnasium of the school, located at 5585 N. Jennie Barker Road.

Victor Ornelas Elementary School will present a fourth- grade music concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the gymnasium of the school, located at 3401 E. Spruce St.

Charles Stones Intermediate Center will present a choir concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria of the school, located at 401 Jennie Barker Road.

Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center will present a band concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria of the school, located at 3101 Belmont Place.

The Garden City High School vocal department will present "A Joyful Night" at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the high school, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd. The concert includes a junior show choir performing "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas"; the combined men's chorus performing "Carol of the Star" and "Go Tell it on the Mountain" along with the yearly GCHS/alumni choirs performing "Carol of the Bells" with handbells.

Featured choirs are: Freshman Girls Chorus, Buffalo Men, Les Chantes, Modern Show Choir, Ladies' Men Barbershop Quartet, Girls 4, and A Cappella Choir, performing songs of the season.

The audience will be invited to sing along on Christmas favorites.

The Garden City High School band will present a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at the high school, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd.

The band is inviting GCHS band alumni back to join the wind ensemble in their performance of Sleigh Ride during the concert.

A rehearsal will be at 6 p.m. that evening for the alumni that would like to perform with the band during the concert.
