Arson is believed to be the cause of a non-injury fire early Friday morning at a vacant mobile home.
Garden City firefighters were dispatched at 3:37 a.m. Friday to 4101 E. U.S. Highway 50 after someone in the area reported the fire. Firefighters arrived on scene at 3:42 a.m.
"The fire was set on the outside of the structure, and the fire was contained to the outside of the structure," Garden City Fire Chief Allen Shelton said.
The fire reportedly was started on the southwest corner of the exterior of the structure. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and left the scene at 4:36 a.m. The estimated loss was $500.
Shelton said the fire likely was arson because the mobile home was vacant.
"It was unoccupied, and no utilities were hooked up to it," he said.
Garden City Police Sgt. Michael Reagle said the GCPD had no leads or suspects. If anyone has any information about the incident, they are encouraged to call the Garden City Police Department at 276-1300.¬ If they wish to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at 275-7807, or text GCTIP and their tip to 847411 (tip411).
