Ralph B. Avila, 96, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at his home in Garden City.
He was born June 12, 1917, in Finney County, to Presciliano and Maria Beltran Avila.
On Dec. 17, 1940, he married Louise Rincon in Garden City. She died Sept. 24, 1980. He also was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Avila had been a lifetime resident of Finney County and Garden City. He worked for 20 years for USD 457, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed yard work, walking, watching TV and visiting with friends.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Avila of Garden City, Lucy Lemaster and her husband Don of Garden City, and Gloria Avila of Garden City; a granddaughter, Sandy Christman and her husband Brad of Mesa, Ariz.; and four great-grandchildren, Braden Christman, Isabella Christman, Connor Christman and Kaitlyn Christman, all of Mesa.
A vigil service and rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Condolences may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
