HOLCOMB — Edith Lorene McDaniel, 91, of Holcomb, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born March 9, 1922, in Haskell County, to Elmer F. and Rowena Rutledge Barlow. She graduated from Holcomb High School.
A resident of Finney County since 1931, Mrs. McDaniel had lived in Holcomb since 1957. She worked as a beautician, owning and operating the Holcomb Beauty Nook for 22 years. She retired in 1982. She was a member of Holcomb Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, knitting, ceramics, flowers, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
On April 18, 1940, she married Louis McDaniel in Garden City. He died March 29, 1996. She also was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clyde, Merle, Frank, Gerald and LeeRoy Barlow; three sisters, Beaulah Barlow, Cledith Crist and Thelma Odell; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Fowler of Garden City; a son, David McDaniel of Garden City; two sisters, Leona McDaniel of Alamosa, Colo., and Donna Miller of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a brother, Donald Barlow of Apache Junction; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
