Frank E. Burns
LAKIN — Frank E. Burns, 68, Lakin, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born June 23, 1945, in Russellville, Ark., to Fred and Edna Morrison Burns.
On March 2, 1971, he married Dorothy Mauer in Ulysses. She survives.
Mr. Burns was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
He worked in the oil fields and road construction and then began working for the city of Lakin in January 1990. He first worked for the street department, before becoming the animal control officer, where he retired in July 2007.
Additional survivors include one son, Frank Burns, Sr. of Lakin; six brothers, Harold Burns of Holcomb, Tom Burns of Garden City, George Burns of Lakin, Dan Burns of Lakin, Fred Burns of Lakin, and Marvin Burns of Visalia, Calif.; three sisters, Nancy Peters of Ulysses, Louise Davis of Lakin, and Freda Ferrell of Ulysses; three grandsons, Frank Burns, Jr. of Lakin, Shae Burns of Lakin, Tyler Crain of Hays; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Burns; and one sister, Belle Detwiller.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Wesleyan Church in Lakin. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, with military graveside rites conducted by the Garden City area Veterans.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family requests memorials be given to the Kearny County Museum, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin, KS 67860.
