Lt. Col. (Retired U.S. Air Force Reserves) Robert "Bob" Armstrong, 92, of Topeka and formerly of Hutchinson, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, in Topeka.
He was born April 3, 1921, in Salina, to Roy D. and Loretta Harrington Armstrong. He graduated from Scott Community High School.
During World War II, Mr. Armstrong served in the U.S. 8th Army Air Force and with the 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron. After World War II, he joined the Air Force Reserves and was called back to active duty in 1948 during the Cold War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves after 32 years of commissioned service. He remained involved in aviation in civilian life, operating air services in Scott City and Hutchinson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary C. (Ruth); two daughters, Elizabeth Rider of Houston, and Jane Webb of Kennewick, Wash.; two granddaughters; a grandson; and two sons, James R. Armstrong, and Robert D. Armstrong of Topeka.
Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City. Burial will be at Scott County Cemetery in Scott City.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Hutchinson Public Library or Wesley Towers, all in care of the funeral home.
