LAKIN — Dorothy May Heinitz-Burden, 88, of Lakin, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
She was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Westphalia, to William and Alta May Steen Weber. She graduated from Lakin Rural High School in 1942. She taught two years in the rural school of Prairie View north of Deerfield.
On Dec. 21, 1945, she married Carl Heinitz in Garden City. They made their home on a farm 18 miles northwest of Lakin. He died in March 1980. She later moved to Lakin. On July 4, 1988, she married Donald Burden in Lakin. He died in December 1999. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Heinitz; a stepson, Jerry Burden; and a sister, Teresa Modie.
Survivors include a son, Robert Heinitz and wife Helen of Lakin; a daughter, Carol Carter-Blevins and husband Len of Junction City; a stepdaughter, Judy Van Riper and husband Rene of Lyons; a stepdaughter-in-law, Karen Burden of Lakin; a sister, Irene Lewis of Junction City; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Lakin United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakin Cemetery.
