Wilma Mead

Wilma Mead, 91, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born May 25, 1921, in Lane County, to Clarence and Bertha Ferguson Alexander.

On Sept. 5, 1939, she married Melvin L. Mead in Glenwood Springs, Colo. He died March 29, 2009. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Elwyn "Buddy" Mead; and a half brother, Ted Ferguson.

After living in northeast Finney County since 1941, Mrs. Mead moved into Garden City in 1955.

Survivors include two sons, Lyle Mead of Milan, Mich., and Max Mead of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a daughter, Darlene "Dolly" Hebrlee of Casper, Wyo.; a brother, Wilbur Alexander of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be emailed to garnandfh@sbcglobal.net. Memorials are suggested to Meals On Wheels, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
